Crown Reductions and Thinning

Removing an excess of shoots from the crown of a tree can promote healthy growth, as well as allowing more light to pass through it and reducing the tree’s wind resistance, thus making it sturdier in adverse weather conditions. When carried out correctly, crown thinning also reduces the weight of each limb and makes the tree healthier and stronger.

Crown thinning is a specialist process that should only be implemented by qualified professionals with the necessary experience and knowledge, especially where Tree preservation orders (TPOs) are in place.
